ultrashort movie review: Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker ****

I wouldn’t say I’m a big Star Wars fan but I have seen 8 out of 9 of the core movies and I enjoyed Rogue One, Solo, and The Mandalorian. I don’t have the perspective of a die hard fan. Keeping that in mind, here is my assessment: this is the best Star Wars movie.

Without spoiling anything: this movie has great characters who are flawed but ultimately redeemable. The action is cool. The “science” is cool. The main characters like each other in ways that feel good. I laughed aloud at the jokes. The Force stuff is cool. The central themes of friendship, patience, love, and nonviolence (sorta) that were imbued in the original 1977 movie are demonstrated in this movie. Children of various backgrounds can watch at this movie and see characters that look like them.

There are some people who hate this movie. Those people are wrong and dumb. I’m sorry life didn’t work out for you and even though you aren’t smart in the traditional sense, you are probably smart in another way maybe. So don’t lose hope.
